Overview: We all experience fear, but how do we move through it so it doesn’t limit our lives and potential. In this presentation we will explore the research behind fear, the brains response to perceived danger, and  limiting belief systems that hold is hostage to our fear. We will examine how fear shapes our thoughts, decisions and behaviors and discover evidence based strategies for building resilience, challenging limiting thought processes and developing the courage to do hard things. There will be a hands on activity so paper and pen are required. This class for a student or adult audience

Overview: “This is stupid.” Perhaps the most frequent and baffling excuse for teens failing to meet their potential. But seen from the internal world of the teen, it’s a perfectly coherent and sensible response to the set challenges teens face. Sam walks through the psychology and motivations that produce apathy as a response to challenge. Appropriate for an adult, teen, or mixed audience.

Overview: When teenagers experience the most difficult parts of life, we all desperately wish that they would talk about it to the responsible adults in their lives, especially their parents. But the question is, are we the sort of parents and adults to whom teens would want to say the difficult things?

Overview: At first glance when you procrastinate over and over and over, can’t get along with your family, know you should do scary things but always choose not to, get perpetually sucked into your phone, or otherwise make the same mistakes over and over it seems like the only reasonable conclusion is that you’re just a dumb kid. But the reality of why humans do what they do is significantly more complex, and it also offers insight on how to make progress on perpetual problems. Sam draws on years of teaching experience and professional resources in the field of psychology and human development to help teens come to better conclusions than “I’m just a dumb kid.”
