The Independent Education Program
About
The Wasatch Homeschool Debate League was founded in 2008 by Sam Martineau to provide a high-quality debate experience and class for secondary homeschool students in Utah. Over the years, the program has grown and evolved into one of the most powerful education organizations dedicated to creating great educational experiences for independently educated students.
A lot has happened since those first years as the WHDL. We've discovered a large need in the homeschool community for reliable, a-la-carte classes for teens. And in 2022, we changed our name to the Independent Education Program and decided to expand classes we offered to include math and chemistry, entrepreneurship, and constitution studies--all while maintaining the Wasatch Independent Debate League as a core program.
We've structured our classes to be great for both in-person and online situations. This has allowed us to grow our student body to all over the nation, and even include some international students as well.
As we seek to continue to grow the program, at the core of everything we do will be our commitment to academic rigor, active learning, our dedication to using evidence-based teaching methods, and a policy of viewpoint neutrality.
We have partnered with several other educational organizations over the years, including Canyon Grove Academy, American Heritage High School, BYU, the University of Utah, Weber State University, and many more. We work with co-ops and commonwealths, as well as small groups of families. We try and reach as many students as we can because at our core, we're about improving education.
Because we understand that a great education is so much more than just studying concepts in textbooks, we strive to create engaging activities outside of the classroom. To this end, we've hosted dances and parties, designed student conferences, humanitarian trips, and even food drives-all with the purpose of increasing student engagement and impact.
We absolutely love what we've build in the Independent Education Program. We hope you find something that will benefit your students' educational experience. We would love to work with you, and if you find that you have questions or would like to get involved, feel free to reach out through our contact form.
